Front Page 500px

To receive enough votes (likes and favs) to enter 500px's first page seemed long like an unrealistic dream. From an image is posted on 500px it has 24 hours to build up a pulse, and the pulse is determined by how many votes the image receives. The pulse is also influenced by other factors. As far as I can see the affection value, which reflects a person's accumulated number of likes and favorites, plays a certain role. However, the single factor (it seems to me) that affects the pulse absolutely most is how rapidly your affection value has grown recently - as rapid growth equals a slower pulse development. It also seems to me that the pulse grows faster if likes and favs come in swiftly. The first page consists of the 20 highest ranked images (the ones with the highest pulse) at any given time. When their time is over (24 hours) the pulse drops.

In the beginning of January I saw my first image entering the front page. That was a very very special moment, and I had no idea when I posted the image that it would take off. No idea whatsoever. That this has happened again, even several times, is truly amazing because there are so many great images out there. And sometimes, I have to admit, it feels totally undeserved to make it. There are so many great photographers, and many do not receive due attention for their stunning work.

Anyway, here are the images that have made it to the front page:

A Canoe in LE (Jan 7th 2014)

Red Dressed in White (Jan 11th 2014)

The Last Kiss (Jan 13th 2014)

Chained III or IV (Feb 10th 2014)

The Light shines in darkness (March 3rd 2014)

Aklangen (March 5th 2014)
